The Kelpie Portable is the unit you stage before you need it. One person can deploy it, it makes no noise in an evacuation centre, and – critically – it does not need a fuel truck to reach it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Kelpie Portable really replace a generator?
For most jobs under 3 kW, yes – and with none of the fuel, noise or fumes. It runs tools, lighting, fridges, computers and comms. For very heavy continuous loads a generator still has a place, which is why the Kelpie includes an auto-start interface so it can drive one only when needed.
What can it run, and for how long?
4.49 kWh usable, 3 kW output. Roughly: a work site’s lights, laptops and phone charging all day; a home fridge, lights, modem and TV overnight (about 10 hours at 0.4 kVA); or heavier tools for around 6 hours at 0.8 kVA. Recharges from solar during the day.
How does it recharge?
Three ways: solar (up to 3,520 W across dual MPPT), 240 V mains via the 10 A C13 inlet, or a generator. Pair it with our Quick Panel Mount System or Flexible Solar Panels to charge anywhere.
How portable is it really?
It is a transportable power station rather than a suitcase – 89 kg, W 431 x H 683 x L 718 mm. It moves on a trolley, in a ute or van, and one person can position it on site. It is built for repeated relocation, not carrying by hand.
Can I use it indoors?
Yes. There is no fuel, no exhaust and no carbon monoxide, so it is safe inside a shed, marquee, hall or home – somewhere a petrol or diesel generator must never go.
Is it suitable for emergency and disaster response?
It is one of the best fits. It is silent for evacuation centres, needs no fuel resupply when roads are cut, deploys in minutes, and its touchscreen works with no internet or mobile coverage. Councils and agencies stage them before cyclone season for exactly this reason.
Does it work without internet or mobile coverage?
Yes. The inbuilt touchscreen gives full monitoring and control on the unit itself, with no connection required. The 4G data pack is optional and only needed if you want remote visibility.
Can it charge an electric vehicle?
Only trickle charging via a standard 10 A outlet, which is slow. For proper off-grid EV charging see the Maxxiom Smart EV Charger paired with a PowerBox or trailer system.
Can I expand the battery?
The 5 kWh battery module is expandable. For a bigger fixed installation, look at the Kelpie MK II or Blue Heeler MK II; for a bigger transportable system, the Dash 5 solar trailer.
What warranty does it come with?
Five years on the power equipment and ten years on the battery, supported from our Brisbane workshop.
